CarmelFest moving away from crowds, closer to home; a good old fashioned 4th of July in your own backyard!

CARMEL, IN – Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard and Carmel Rotary are announcing an expanded
fireworks display this year to help residents experience a good old fashioned 4 th of July.
After the cancellation of the CarmelFest parade and the traditional densely packed festival
at Civic Square, this is a return to days gone by, when the 4 th was celebrated close to home.
Families cooked out on a backyard barbeque, played yard games and had picnics
culminating with kids running around joyfully with sparklers. It was a very relaxed event
celebrating the freedom of our nation.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the slow re-entry of our daily lives together, many
community-wide 4 th of July celebrations are being cancelled. Another American past time
that many are missing this season is baseball. In that spirit, CarmelFest is bringing you a
triple play – fireworks displays on the east, central and west sides of town so that families
can truly enjoy CarmelFest in Your Own Backyard!

The almost 20-minute display will start at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, and it will again be
set to music that will be broadcast by Carmel High School Radio Station, WHJE, 91.3 on
your FM dial. Please listen over the radio as online broadcast includes a delay that will not
be in sync with the fireworks.

“This is a very meaningful day of celebration in our country and we are very excited to be
able to expand the fireworks display so that people all across town can have an opportunity
to see a brilliant display from their own backyards or a nearby location. We hope this will
bring hope and a reminder of the resilience of all Americans,” said Mayor Brainard.

“Creating one of the best fireworks displays in the state each year at CarmelFest is always a
goal, but this year’s pandemic brought us many new challenges. We are thankful to Melrose
Pyrotechnics and our fire department for working with us to find three safe locations to
produce this show,” said Council Member At-Large and CarmelFest Fireworks director, Jeff

If you live in an area with dense tree cover, you may want to park at a lot nearby the
display. If you do venture out, please practice appropriate physical distancing and wear a
face covering. If you don’t want to cook at home, please remember to patronize our local
businesses for patio dining with a view of the fireworks display or carry out for your own

The three locations from which the fireworks will be displayed are:

  • West Side – West Park, 2700 W. 116 th Street
  • Central Carmel – Chase Court cul-de-sac, Chase Court is between Range Line Road
    and Guilford Ave.
  • East Side – Badger Field, 5459 E. Main Street
